Day : 8 Friday 02-jul-1999

At WBCCI International

Wright Patterson Air Force Base

Dayton, Ohio

We got up early to attend the 7 o'clock Charter Oak Airstream club breakfast. It was good. Sat with Rich and Kathy Griffin, who we camped with at the 1998 Region 1 rally in Durham. Per gave him snide remarks over the fact that he was now 3rd vice president of the Hudson Mohawk unit, suggesting it was time for him to start dressing like an officer. Towards the end, Wayne Rutty (our Region 1 president) called Per up and presented him with an official Region 1 officer's badge with the title "Region 1 Web Master". Very nice indeed. But also very ironic, considering the conversation he had just had with Rich. [Per would end up hearing endless snide remarks from the others in the club about this later]. We went home via the Nutter Center where we picked up embroided baseball hats and seat covers.

We got back to our trailer and putzed around a little bit. The rain had completely removed the smell from the accidental dumping of black water onto the Kushman's "front yard". Isabella played with Tisha, who lives in a trailer not far from us. It was then time to get ready for the New England club picnic/lunch, which was held in the big tent at the end of the Red area. Another good meal. As the event was wrapping up, Lillemor sent the kids on the WBCCI bus towards the kid's FUN DAY. They were very excited to be able to travel there on their own.

Shortly thereafter we took the truck up towards the picnic area, by Wright State University. All kids were still playing around, as part of the fun day. We found out that our kids had gotten lost on their way to the FUN DAY, but since they were on a chartered WBCCI bus, it was not a big problem. They had asked around for help finding the place where the event took place, but many WBCCI members they asked did not know where it was. Several families had turned up for the picnic, which followed the FUN DAY event. Many of them were grandparents. Linda Amme made a brief presentation and mentioned that some 146 kids had showed up to this year's International Rally.

We returned back to our trailer to find yet another big party taking place over there. Some 30+ people had turned up for a pot-luck late afternoon BBQ. Very nice. It was a party for everybody that has there anniversary or birthday in July. We have cake(s).

   BleakneyFamily
Chuck, Chad and Pam Bleakney . Chad is getting ready to escort a teen queen nominee.

Isabella, Karl and Lillemor went to the center to see the teen queen nomination. Some of the girl were very good. Unfortunately didn't Karl last through the whole event, so she left just before the finalist was announced. When we came back the party was over and Mike had left us some cake. We had some and went to bed.
