Day 6 -- Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Tuesday 7/3/2001

Excursion: Movie theatre in north Myrtle Beach

Myself, Lilly and Isabella got up a bit earlier this morning because they were holding a 1 mile fun run at the campground at 7am. We had signed up for it. It took a bit of work to get Isabella in gear. But she was there in time for the start. The fun run went along the ocean front of the campground from one end to the other and then looped back around. About 30 people attended the fun run. I managed to come in 3rd overall. Lilly came in first in her group but somehow their cards got messed up a little bit so she got noted down as being in second place for her group. Isabella ran the whole race and came in first for her age group. We were very proud of here. She came in around 8-9 minutes which is a good pace. A shame she does not want to keep such a pace when we run 5km races.

We prepared things at the trailer and setup for 8am breakfast. Vincent came over with the kids and we ate together. Vincent made crepes. They were very good. He also brought over some maple syrup from Canada as well as some Nutella, which our kids really like. What a treat! We decided to go to the beach for a little while. It was nice and warm outside. Right now the tide is all the way out at noon time so the beach looks very nice in the morning. Vincent to some of the kids over and played mini-golf. They actually wanted to go over to the pool, but they had a contest there so Vincent was not allowed in with the kids to swim.

Eating crepes for breakfast

Eating crepes for breakfast .. don't hold back the whipped cream, Pascal!!

We got back and ate lunch by trailer. It started to cloud over a bit and we were thinking about going out to try the race cars. But the rain soon started to fall and we knew that the race track would be closed. Vincent took out a game of UNO that we all played under the awning. Even Karl understood most of the rules. The rain kept coming and going and we continued to play. But around 3pm we felt like we wanted to do something; it was getting to be a bit boring. We decided to go down to the cinema and watch a movie. Lilly wanted to take a nap instead. We headed to north Myrtle Beach. The road was packed with people. The rain affects everyone and many probably feel inclined to get into their cars when they cannot be at the beach or in amusement parks. After a while in traffic jam we tried to navigate over site streets; King's Highway can be very busy. Tickets are cheap compared to home: just $2.50 per seat. Perhaps this is because it is so hard to convince people to even go to the cinema down here? We bought drinks and popcorn and divided ourselves over two groups. I watched Crocodile Dundee comes to Los Angeles with Isabella, Paule and Karl. Meanwhile, Vincent watched Return of the Mummy with Erik and Pascal. It was 6:30pm by the time we got out of the cinema. Everyone was happy with what they had watched. We rushed back home.

Watching TV inside the trailer before dinner

I went out to do some dinner food shopping while the other stayed back at the trailer. When I got back we raced to complete food for the kids, who looked quite pooped out. We ate tuna salad and ate some bread. We watched The Little Princess on TV while we ate. Pascal was very tired and had a hard time sitting up. As soon as the movie was over, Vincent left with his kids to go back to the tent. We got to bed almost immediately thereafter.
