Day 32: Monday 27-Jul-1999

Base Camp: Arch View, Moab, Utah

Excursion: Arches National Park (Utah)

Distance: 45 mi (72 km)

Today is the last day before starting to go back home. We took it easy, did the final laundry, Per updated the WEB pages and we went for a swim in the pool. The weather started off cloudy and by noon is was sunny.

In the afternoon, when we were going to go to see the nearby Arches, it started to get cloudy again -- typical. The weather here is like in New England, changing every 5 minutes. We went out to the end of the park (Devil's Garden) hoping that is was less cloudy there. We saw the Tunnel Arch and the Pine Tree Arch. There is a longer trail out to more arches, but the weather was uncertain (it was sprinkling) and the kids were not in a mod for more walking. We went back to the car. By the time we were back to the beginning off the park (Balanced Rock and The Windows) the sun was out again ...So in the end we got a wonderful evening view of the North and South windows. There is a lot to see here, so we hope to be back some day. There are plenty of hiking trails here.

It was late when we were done with Arches; about 7pm. We went to the grocery store to get food for the next 5 days on the trip home. Back at the trailer we quickly put together the things around the trailer. Hooked up before it got dark. Made dinner and ate at about 9:30 pm. Karl ate before us and went to sleep on the sleeping bag under the table.
