Day 22: Friday 16-Jul-1999

Base camp: Kanab, Utah

Today we decided to stay home and relax a little bit. We slept in late. Per worked on these web pages and some e-mails most of the day. The kids went to the pool here at the campground. By towards the end of the day Per looked for a place to plug in and upload the web pages. He finally ended up going to Kanab's local library, as our campground does not have any e-mail hookup. At the library they had their public and captive Internet access, but that is no good for what we want to do. We need our own connection. He managed to borrow their local phone line to dial out, but did not get to use it for very long, so he only shot off some mails and downloaded what was waiting. They told Per that if he came back on Tuesday he may be able to use the line a bit longer, after 5pm. We'll see how that works out, because by Tuesday we will have moved up to Duck Creek.

We went out for dinner and ate at Nedra's Cafe. They have been in business for a long time. We noticed that they also have one Cafe in Fredonia, which is just south over the border into Arizona. As the waitress presented us with the menus, Per realized that this is a dry state, as no alcoholic drinks were listed on his menu. He started ranting about that we should have gone to Nedra's down in Fredonia instead. Turns out, Lillemor's menu did have a small clip attached to it with reference to availability of drinks. When the waitress came back, we were able to buy drinks. We guess the alcoholic laws are not strictly enforced. Perhaps that is local to this small town and that things are different as you get to places like Salt Lake City?
